Next week, we have our company party to celebrate the holidays and I was only planning on doing 3 of these 5 things, SHOULD keep me employed. We’ll see...lol
Just in case you have your work party coming up and you don’t want to be the talk of the office Monday morning, here’s what an HR expert that’s been in the game for 20+ years says you should NOT do, with some additional commentary from me...
She says even if you’re the top salesperson or the model employee, doing any of these things can ruin your reputation and damage your career. If you can avoid #1 on the list, you’ll have a much better chance of avoiding the rest.
Here are the top 5:
1. Don’t get wasted- A strategy called “zebra striping” was in the news last week. It’s when you drink, but your next drink has to be something like soda or water. They say to avoid two beers or cocktails in a row, hydrate in between and give it a little time so you’re not hammered 90 minutes in. However, for some of you, that open bar and that free dinner is the ONLY bonus you’re getting this year, so finishing off that bottle of Tito’s might be your only goal.
2. Don’t overshare- Sure, the whole vibe of the night might be casual, but keep in mind that you’re still technically at work, even through you might not be in the office.
3. Don’t mix business and romance- In other words, no trying to hook up with Alex in accounting at the holiday party.
4. Don’t ignore the dress cod There’s always that one dude that shows up in the tuxedo T-shirt and Santa pajama pants. Don’t be that guy! Show up and show out, get dressed up and look nice! Impress everyone, can’t hurt!
5. Don’t post without consent- The HR expert says not to share photos or videos of other people on social media, unless you know they’re cool with it. That includes pics and video of co-workers who drink 41 White Claws and make an ass of themselves. Don’t post them, just share them with your close co-workers on Monday morning. lol
