BELLE PLAINE, Kan. — A driver was pulled from a vehicle that went airborne and hit the roof of a Pizza Hut before bursting into flames.
The Belle Plaine Police Department was called to a report of an erratic driver on Sunday night, KSNW reported.
Police said in a news release that the driver was going 55 to 65 mph when they went through a stop sign, hit a curb, went airborne and landed upright against the building. An officer used the fire extinguisher from his patrol vehicle to put out as much as the fire as possible before pulling the driver to safety.
The engine caught fire, which then spread to the building and caused significant damage, KSNW reported.
Police said the driver was taken to a hospital, and no other injuries were reported.
The only person inside the restaurant at the time of the crash was the manager, police said.
Investigators said they are looking into whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, KSNW reported.
